There are many meetings, conferences and seminars designed for students, scholars, professionals and political leaders interested in science and technology policy. Below are a select few. Alda Center Summer Institute -- Organized by Stony Brook University, this program is intended for university administrators and faculty members who want to build a science communication program. The Summer Institute's primary goals are to share the Alda Center for Communicating Science's experiences, techniques, materials, and lessons learned, to help inspire and facilitate efforts by others; to learn from others who are active or interested in this field, and to continue building an affiliate network of universities committed to improving public communication of science.
Atlanta Conference on Science & Innovation Policy -- Organized by the School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech, the Atlanta Conference on Science and Innovation Policy provides a showcase for the highest quality scholarship addressing the multidimensional challenges and interrelated characteristics of science and innovation policy and processes. The Conference attracts over 300 researchers from more than 35 countries and include a young researcher poster competition, parallel paper sessions to discuss on-going research and a series of plenary talks.
AAAS Annual Meeting -- The AAAS Annual Meeting is one of the most widely recognized and reported interdisciplinary scientific events, encompassing the breadth of the sciences as well as education, engineering, and technology. It is a major attraction for the scientific, business, NGO, media, and policy-maker communities concerned about the interaction of science and technology with society.
AAAS Forum on Science and Technology Policy -- The annual AAAS Forum on Science and Technology Policy is an excellent conference for people interested in public policy issues facing the science, engineering, and higher education communities. Since 1976, it has provided a mechanism by which individuals interested in science policy could go to learn what is happening and what is likely to happen in the coming year on the federal budget and the growing number of policy issues that affect researchers and their institutions. The forum is held in the spring, usually in late April or early May.
AAAS Science and Technology Policy Leadership Seminar -- The AAAS Leadership Seminar in Science and Technology (S&T) Policy is a 'crash course' in science and technology policy, designed for those who need to know how S&T policy works. It is modeled after the highly acclaimed orientation program that AAAS provides for its new S&T Policy Fellows each fall, but distills the key material into 4 1/2 days instead of two weeks."
Arizona State University CaTNASP Training Program -- Housed under ASU's Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes (CSPO), CaTNASP is a training program in Washington, DC for early career science and technology policy practitioners. The program is built around ten modules held on consecutive Saturdays that explore different aspects of science policy, ranging from strengthening connections between researchers and the public to the role that science plays in confronting and managing uncertainty.
The Gordon Research Conference on Science and Technology Policy -- The Gordon Research Conference on Science and Technology Policy, begun in 2000, is held every two years in August and covers topics of interest to the entire research community. This conference seeks to combine the latest in ongoing policy research and analysis with insights into the practice of decision-making from local to national levels of government.
Society for Social Science of Science (4S) -- 4S is a nonprofit professional association and was founded in 1975. It has an international membership of over 1200. The main purpose of 4S is to bring together those interested in understanding science, technology, and medicine, including the way they develop and interact with their social contexts. 4S has an Annual Meeting featuring panels, poster sessions, exhibitors, travel grants and membership programs.
